Tips and Tactics * Remember that you are trying to persuade through the art of arguing using various skills to convey your point of view. * Always present your roadmap at the beginning of each speech and use it to defend your position. This will help the judge to follow your arguments. * Summarize and explain your position at the end of each argument in your own words. * Flow your opponent's argument issue by issue so that you can respond to any disadvantages raised and not drop any important points. * Respond with factual information to highlight advantages and make comparisons using evidence cited. * When responding, say which of the opponent’s arguments you are attacking * Remember that the art of arguing is a skill. * Have fun. Discover your unique style and ability. * Punctuate rebuttals with a strong closing. This appeals to the judge. * Be polite, courteous and will mannered. PRESENTATION AND STYLE * Make your voice clear and your tone strong to project a convincing and persuasive style. * Stand tall. * Keep steady eye contact to help convey confidence. * Clearly state your plan. * Keep a good rhythm and pace, don’t rush.
